Traveling to Egypt and feeling safe will depend on your level of comfort and how you feel about the safety measures currently in place (and there are many).

Here are some things you should know:

• The distance between Cairo and Rafah (the southern border of Gaza) is approximately 247 miles.

• The distance between Luxor (the city second farthest south on this journey) and Rafah is approximately 400 miles.

• The distance between Aswan (the city farthest south on this journey) and Rafah is approximately 520 miles.

• Ever since the "Arab Spring" and the January 2011 uprising, the Egyptian government has put in place some very robust protocols and security measures. For example, every tour bus has an armed security person on board who travels with you on your entire trip.

• You will see armed security just about everywhere, especially in areas where there is a heavy tourist presence.

• My clients and I have been traveling to Egypt since the October 7, 2023 incursion. No one has ever expressed that they felt unsafe during their travels. I have not personally felt unsafe in Egypt during any of my travels.

• Flights to and tours in Egypt never stopped after the incursion and it has been business as usual.

As an additional measure, I automatically enroll ALL my internationally traveling clients in the State Department's STEP (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program). The benefits of you being enrolled in STEP are:

• You receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans.

• Helps the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.

• Helps family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency.
